Do you find it hard to motivate yourself to do a home workout, or blame the expensive gym membership for your non-existent fitness plan?
It’s easy to blame other factors rather than admitting that yes, I’m too lazy to start working out. From experience one thing I would say is that it’s hard at first, but when you start to see results, whether it’s physically or mentally, you will not want to go back to being the couch potato.
I do agree that if you have a busy schedule, or struggle to afford memberships it can be hard to sign up or buy the necessary equipment, which is why I have put together this article to find budget friendly ways for you to start your fitness journey.
Because, at the end of the day, successfully working out requires hard work, discipline and resilience, all of which costs nothing.

Home Workouts & Home Gym
The easiest way to start your fitness journey is by utilizing what you’ve got! By creating home workouts, you can easily set aside 10-30 minutes a day for activity. Use your body weight for resistance with Pilates or HIIT classes or take time to practice yoga. Push-ups, sit-ups, planks, squats, lunges, and cardio are all great exercises to start with. You might even have an unused bike in the garage; if you're not a fan of exercise, try going for a bike ride—it's both exercise and an adventure!
Another idea is to create your own home gym by purchasing secondhand equipment, which is considerably cheaper, or by using equipment you might already have at home. Many people believe home workouts are less effective and a waste of time, but that's not the case, a home gym doesn't mean compromising on quality or effectiveness.
Tailor your workouts to be effective with the equipment you have. Using dumbbells, resistance bands, jump ropes, kettlebells, and a yoga mat can provide a variety of exercises for a well-rounded workout plan. Incorporating exercises that target major muscle groups into a comprehensive routine ensures a balanced workout that promotes overall health, strength, and stamina.

Budget Friendly Gym Memberships
If you’ve tried home workouts but need the motivation of a gym, consider looking for budget-friendly gym memberships. Many larger businesses now offer affordable options, such as Revo Fitness, where memberships start at $9.69 a week with no sign-up fee and no contract, allowing you to cancel at any time. This can be a great way to explore different equipment, try new exercises, and even meet new people. You might find a workout buddy to help keep each other motivated.
If you are someone who often feels intimidated in the gym, budget friendly gyms often appeal to people like yourself who may be just starting out and eager to learn how to use the equipment.
Often these memberships will come with a free trial, that allows you to use the facilities before committing to the full plan. This is a great way to see if the gym is right for you, and if it isn’t you have to make sure to cancel the trail before the membership starts.

Fitness Apps & Videos
Have you ever tried searching for free fitness apps and videos online? If not, you definitely should. There are many free apps and videos that provide exercise plans, meal ideas, and the ability to record your fitness information. These apps often offer access to various features, with options to purchase additional plans for more detailed content. They’re a great way to tailor available resources to your own workout plan.
YouTube is an excellent platform for free exercise classes and workout plans, effectively giving you access to a personal trainer at no cost. Additionally, platforms like Instagram and TikTok are filled with free workout posts, offering tips like “5 exercises for a stronger core” or “Dumbbell-only workouts.” You could even plan an entire week of workouts using only free online videos. Make the most of these resources to support your fitness journey!

Stepping outside and using the free public facilities
Now this is a great opportunity to be in nature and use the free facilities available. Did you know that nature helps boost serotonin levels, leading to a more positive frame of mind? Being outdoors benefits both your body and mind, enhancing your emotional well-being and physical health. You can go for walks, runs, or even join free exercise groups—an excellent way to enjoy the outdoors and meet people.
Explore public tennis courts, basketball courts, football fields, and swimming pools. If they're free, they're perfect for playing sports, having fun, and staying active without spending a penny.

Sports
If you’ve tried the above but still can’t seem to motivate yourself to work out, consider joining sports clubs. Being part of a team allows you to meet new people and enjoy a social environment. If you prefer something free, you could even create your own sports club with friends, making exercise fun and engaging.
Sports clubs are generally inclusive, attracting a diverse range of people and encouraging participation. If you’re a beginner who loves sport, clubs can provide access to coaches who can help you become more experienced. Some sports may require additional strength or cardio training, motivating you to do more to maximize results and avoid injuries.
Working out as a team is a great way to stay motivated. The commitment to your team can inspire you to get up early for training or ensure you don’t miss a session, as you won't want to let your teammates down.
